Open Mats 2026 so far…

HILTI, Fightzone and Ringside Gym - the FLINTA* Community is taking over Berlin’s BJJ Gyms!

BeyondMattrix continued its strong start into 2026 with a series of FLINTA*-only Open Mats across Berlin. A total of more than 60 participants joined the events hosted at Hilti, Fightzone Berlin, and Ringside Gym, once again demonstrating the growing need for community-oriented and safer training spaces within Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

At Hilti, 2026 European Champion Denise Krahn welcomed participants to her gym and rolled with everyone during the Open Mat. The atmosphere was both relaxed and inspiring, giving participants the opportunity to train alongside one of Europe’s top competitors while exchanging experiences and building new connections within the FLINTA* BJJ community.

Another special moment was the Open Mat organized on International Women’s Day at Fightzone Berlin. Among the visitors was Laurien, who owns her own gym in Munich and is highly knowledgeable about CLA (Constraints-Led Approach) training methods.

At Ringside Gym, Julia once again welcomed the BeyondMattrix community. Since the previous Open Mat, she had also been promoted to purple belt — an important milestone celebrated by the participants. The event once again brought together practitioners from different academies and experience levels in a warm and supportive atmosphere.

BeyondMattrix’s main coach Charlotte von Baumgarten also participated in the International Women’s Day Open Mat. In an interview afterwards, she reflected on what it felt like to step back onto the IBJJF competition mats at the European Championships in January and add another medal to her long competition career.

You can find video interviews with several participants on Instagram, including (click below):

  • Laurien speaking about the CLA training method,

  • Julia discussing the importance of women’s classes and FLINTA*-centered spaces,

  • Denise Krahn sharing insights into her preparation for the European Championship,

  • and Charlotte von Baumgarten reflecting on competition, longevity, and her return to the IBJJF stage.

With every Open Mat, BeyondMattrix continues to strengthen connections between FLINTA* practitioners across Berlin and beyond, creating spaces where people can train, learn, compete, and grow together.
